How much do classes cost?
Most classes, including yoga, pilates, and hot yoga are priced as follows:
New Student 3 Pack -$40 (1-month expiration)
Single Class – $20
5-Class Pack – $85 (2-month expiration)
10-Class Pack – $160 (3-month expiration)
15-Class Pack – $215 (4-month expiration)
We also offer a variety of specialty workshops, which vary in price.
What type of classes does Mind the Mat offer?
We offer ongoing drop in classes including Flow Yoga (Levels I and II), Jivamukti, Gentle Yoga, Pilates Mat (Levels I/II), Pilates Boot Camp, Mommy and Me Pilates and Yoga, Yoga Barre, Pilates Barre and more. In our state of the art hot yoga studio in Alexandria we offer Hot Hatha Yoga (26 poses at 115 degrees), Hot Flow Yoga, Hot Prana Flow, Hot Slow Flow (all flow classes are 95-100 degrees), and Hot Gentle Yoga/Deep Stretch (85 degrees).
We offer Pilates Equipment Circuit classes using the Pilates Reformer, Chair, Tower and Props. These are 6-week workshops.
We offer 6-week workshops in Prenatal Pilates and Yoga, Prenatal Yoga/Massage, Postpartum Pilates and Yoga, Pilates and Yoga Fundamentals, Therapeutic Pilates and Yoga, Therapeutic Yoga for Back Pain, T’ai Chi, and more. These workshops run every six weeks.
We offer monthly Infant CPR and Birthing Classes.
We also offer one time special events such as Pilates for Runners, Partners Yoga, Partners Thai Massage, Nutritional Cleanses, Hula Hoop, Belly Dancing, Yoga Philosophy, Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and more.
Where is Mind the Mat located?
We have two studios in the heart of quaint Del Ray, Alexandria at 2214 Mt. Vernon Ave. We also have a studio in Clarendon, Arlington directly across the street from the George Mason Law School at 3300 N. Fairfax Dr., Unit B, a few blocks from both the Clarendon and Virginia Square metro stops.
What credentials do your teachers have?
All of our teachers are certified in Pilates (through reputable classical, and/or evolved schools) and/or yoga (through internationally recognized Yoga Alliance). Many of our teachers also have advanced degrees and experience in the fields of physical therapy, massage therapy, nutrition, nursing, prenatal and postpartum fitness, and therapeutics (Pilates and yoga for rehabilitation).
I’m new. How do I sign up?
We offer weekly classes. Sign up for these classes anytime. We also offer specialty workshops which occur in a series. Please check specialty workshop schedule for start dates. To sign up you can use our online scheduling and payment system, go to the website home page and click on Login in the right hand corner. Follow directions from there. We accept visa, master card, check or cash. Try our New Student Package: 3 Classes for $40 (30 Day Expiration), you only have one chance to purchase this offer.
Must I sign up in advance?
Due to the specialized nature of our workshops, pre-registration is required. To ensure your spot in our regularly scheduled ongoing classes, please sign up in advance. However, if this is absolutely not possible, drop-ins are allowed if space permits. Please check class schedule online in advance to make sure there are no class cancellations or changes.
Can I use my class package at both the Alexandria and Arlington studios?
Do you offer classes for beginners?
Yes. The following classes are designed specifically for beginners or for those with injuries/limitations: Therapeutic Pilates, Therapeutic Yoga, Pilates Fundamentals, Yoga Fundamentals. These classes are each taught as a 6-Week Series to insure that all participants are at the same level. To sign up, view our specialty workshops. In addition, our level I, level I/II, and Gentle classes are great for beginners.
Do you offer classes for advanced students?
Yes! All level I/II, II, boot camp, barre, power flow, and heated classes are great for advanced students.
How hot are your heated classes?
In our state of the art Hot Yoga studio at our Alexandria location temperatures range from 85-115 Degrees Fahrenheit depending on class style. Styles include Hot Hatha (26 held poses at 115 degrees), Hot Power Flow (95 degrees), Hot Prana Flow (95 degrees), Hot Slow Flow (95 degrees), and Heated Gentle/Deep Stretch (85 degrees). Heated facilitates flexibility and detoxification!
Do you offer a teacher training program for yoga?
The temperature usually ranges between 85-90 degrees Fahrenheit at our Arlington studio.
Mind the Mat is a Registered Yoga Teacher Training School through Yoga Alliance. In September of 2013 we will begin offering a 200 hour teacher training. Any student graduating from this training will be eligible to become certified as an RYT-200 through internationally recognized, Yoga Alliance.
I have an injury. Do you have a class for me?
Yes! This is one of our specialties. Our Therapeutic Pilates, Therapeutic Yoga, Therapeutic Yoga for Back Pain, and Chair Yoga classes are specifically designed for those students with injuries or limitations. Do you offer classes for prenatal and postpartum classes for women?
Absolutely! This is one of our specialties. We offer various workshops including, Prenatal Pilates and Prenatal Yoga and Massage. These classes are each taught as a 6-Week Series. Are the prenatal classes for women during all stages of pregnancy?
How soon after my baby is born can I start the postpartum classes? How old should my baby be for the mommy and me classes?
As soon as you are ready and cleared by your doctor to return to exercise. Generally, women wait 6 weeks before returning to exercise. However, the most important thing is that you listen to your body and do what feels right to you. Babies between newborn and crawling age are welcome to come to the mommy and me classes. Once babies start to crawl, it is harder for moms to focus in class.

What should I bring? Do you have mats?
Pilates and yoga mats are available free of charge at the studio for all our classes except Hot Yoga. We always encourage you to bring your own mat to all our classes, but for Hot Yoga you are required to bring your own mat. You should have your own towel and water as well for Hot Yoga classes. If you do not have these items, mats, towels, and water are available for purchase at our studio. Please dress in comfortable, work-out style clothing. You will remove your shoes when you arrive at class, unless you are taking a boot camp class, in which case you may leave your tennis shoes on.
Do you have a place to change clothes before and after class? Do you have showers?
We have amply sized bathrooms, but we do not have showers. There are cubbies in each studio to store clothing and valuables. We have changing rooms in the Hot Yoga studio.
Do you have parking? Is your studio metro accessible?
Ample parking is available at our Del Ray, Alexandria studio both at curb side (unmetered) and in the parking lot behind the studio (4 spots marked as Mind the Mat). Our Clarendon, Arlington studio is metro accessible–a few blocks from both the Clarendon and Virginia Square metros. Ample curb side parking is available at the Clarendon, Arlington studio, but it is metered.
How early should I arrive before class starts?
1o minutes is perfect. Anything earlier and you may run into the class scheduled before yours. If you have concerns you would like to discuss with your teacher, please email us before your class so that we may allow for more time to discuss your concerns.
What is your cancellation policy?
For workshops, please cancel 24 hours in advance of first class to receive studio credit. For all other classes, please cancel your class at least 4 hours in advance to ensure studio account credit. If you have an emergency, email us and we will credit your class to your studio account for use at a later time.
What is your class package extension and/or refund policy?
Please email us if you need an extension on your package. We will ask you to update your payment information in your account before we authorize the extension. The cost of extensions are as follows: $5 for 2 week extension for 5 class package. $10 for 3 week extension of 10 class package. $15 for 4 week extension of 15 class package. Generally, we do not authorize refunds. We can credit your studio account for use of funds at a later date. Refunds are authorized only in unique circumstances.
Can children take classes at Mind the Mat?
Mind the Mat offers classes for kids through YoKid and TippiToes. Visit the YoKid website to sign up or www.tippitoesdance.com. Pre-teenagers or teenagers may come to any of our classes with a parent. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Do you sell Gift Certificates?
Yes! On our website, click on the “Gifts” tab at the top of the page and follow directions. At the end of transaction you will be able to print the gift certificate.
